Legal Articles & Papers

The following articles were written by Darren Williams for various coastal industry magazines.

A Pacific Accord?

A Pacific Accord is rumored to have been negotiated in the late 1980's.  There has been unconfirmed reports that this version of the Pacific Accord includes provisions giving the Province of British Columbia 100% of the royalties from the offshore - what the Federal government would get is unknown.

There is no current version of the Pacific Accord.  Any future Pacific Accord will likely be based on the  Atlantic Accord.

A BC Offshore Petroleum Board? (BCOPB)

There is currently no British Columbia Offshore Petroleum Board.  If development is to proceed, it will likely proceed under a regime similar to that implemented on the Atlantic Coast.  The Atlantic Accords created the Canada- Newfoundland Offshore Petroleum Board and the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board.  These Boards, composed of 7 and 5 members respectively, oversee almost all aspects of the offshore development

The mandate of the Atlantic offshore petroleum boards can be found above.
