Notes:

Part XV of the Canada Shipping Act enacts the Oil Pollution Preparedness and Response Convention or OPRC and regulates pollution prevention and response. The purpose of Part XV is to prescribe measures to prevent pollution and to minimize the effects of a pollution incident should one occur. This is primarily done by requiring ship owners to have an oil pollution emergency response plan and an arrangement with one of the approved pollution response organizations. The Act further prescribes construction standards and equipment requirements and allows for the appointment of Pollution Prevention Officers who have various duties under the Act, all aimed at preventing pollution or remedying the effects of a pollution incident.
Note that these sections apply to oil pollution only and not to other contaminants.
