The Fisheries Act prohibits the deposit of a deleterious substance in waters frequented by fish (s.36). “Deleterious substance” is very broadly defined. It means any substance that would degrade or alter the quality of the water. "Deposit" is defined to include both intentional and accidental acts resulting in a deleterious substance being added to water.
