Notes:
The Fisheries Act makes it an offence to deposit a deleterious substance into waters frequented by fish. The maximum fine is $300,000 for a first offence. For a second offence the Act provides for a jail term of not more than 6 months. If the Crown proceeds by indictment, the maximum fine is $1 million and the maximum jail term is three years. It is no defence that the deposit was not intentional.
