September 18, 2007 - Admiralty Jurisdiction and Canadian Maritime Law

To prepare for this lecture students are asked to read sections 2 (definition of Canadian Maritime Law), 22 and 42 of the Federal Court Act, and following cases:

Ordon Estate v Grail (very important)

Laboucane v Brooks

Isen v Simms

You may also read  ITO Terminal Operators v Miida Electronics

October 2, 2007 - Admiralty Practice and Procedures

To prepare for this lecture students are asked to read the Outline, section 43 of the Federal Court Act, Part 13 of the Federal Court Rules, 1988, and Rule 55 of the Supreme Court of British Columbia Rules.

 

October 23 & 30, 2007 - Carriage of Goods, Bills of Lading and Charterparties

To prepare for these lectures students are asked to read the Outline , Part V of the Marine Liability Act and the Hague-Visby Rules. Students might also review the case notes under the Carriage of Goods section of this web site.

 

November 13, 2007 Lecture: Maritime Liens and Priorities

To prepare for this lecture students are asked to read the following cases:

November 27, 2007 - Marine Insurance

To prepare for this lecture students are asked to read the Outline and the Marine Insurance Act.  Students may also wish to review the case summaries on the Marine Insurance Page and the three papers ( Insurance FAQ, Warranties, Assureds) referred to at the top of the Marine Insurance Page.
